National BC Awareness Week, June 21-27 – Dare to be aware!!!

According to DRII, this is national BC Awareness Week. It’s not one of the world’s greatest holidays. It’s not even on the radar of most people. Hallmark has even heard about it – yet! But why should we ignore an opportunity to collectively raise awareness about the necessity of planning and preparedness.

Imagine if …

each of us made a point of mentioning the importance of BCP to three co-workers this week?

we put a tag line – “This is Business Continuity Awareness week … are we prepared?” along with our email signatures?

we added a similar phrase to our voice mail greetings?

those of you with crowded meeting schedules, made a point of bringing up the topic at the beginning or end of each meeting?

you consultants sent messages reminding your clients of BC Awareness?

Reminds me of a fable: Two birds sat on a slender branch of a tree in winter.

“Tell me the weight of snowflake,” the Robin asked the Wild Dove.

“Nothing more than nothing,” was the answer.

“In that case, I must tell you a marvelous story,” the Robin said.

“I sat on the branch of a fir, close to the trunk, when it began to snow- not heavily not in a raging blizzard – no, just like in a dream. Since I did not have anything better to do, I counted the snowflakes settling on the twigs and needles of my branch. Their number was exactly 3,741,952. When the 3,741,953rd dropped onto the branch, nothing more than nothing, as you say – the branch broke off.”

Having said that, the Robin flew away.

The Dove, since Noah’s time an authority on the matter of disaster recovery, thought about the story for a while, and finally said to herself, “Perhaps there’s only one person’s voice lacking for peace and security to come to the world.”

I believe that business continuity planning is a matter of national security. Each one of us has a voice in the matter. Whatever we can do during an average day to promote BC awareness could be a contributing factor to the peace and security of our families, livelihoods and communities. Dare to be aware!

Monthly Meeting Updates

July 9th,

The monthly meeting topic is Disaster Recovery, with Curt Smerud. Check out the website, www.BCPA.org for details.

August

The Board will continue strategic planning discussions in August. However, there is no monthly members’ meeting.  So even though we’re not getting together, please, watch for and respond to future member surveys in order to contribute your thoughts to the planning process!

Have a great month. See everyone in July.
